The track is still covered with snow and we are seeing a warm winter here in the valley.  We've started our fund raising efforts to accomplish a few things at the track:  a complete rebuild (minus starting hill); reinforce starting hill with a retaining wall to deal with erosion issue; add portapotties on site for the entire summer; purchase bleachers; provide a shade structure near the finish line; eventually cover staging/top of starting hill; provide a dedicated place for registration and equipment at the track (little building); and I'm sure our wish list will grow as we continue to run the best little track in Colorado!

We had our first full season in 2014 - we are declaring success!  We averaged 52 racers per single point race and had over 200 racers for our first State Championship Qualifier Race!  We also landed in the top 50% of all Colorado tracks for membership and ridership, which earns us a double point race this year.  We've seen more families come to the races, more spectators, riders gaining skill and advancing in proficiency, and more volunteers.

It truly takes a village to run a bmx track and we'd be sunk without our amazing volunteers who show up each week to help us run the races, come to the spring work day to do a major improvement project, promote the track in the community, and so much more.  I really miss you all this winter and can't wait to see you soon.  We'll post our work day on Facebook - we'll be fixing the starting hill this year, getting the retaining wall in place and making sure we don't lose any more of the hill to erosion!

If your rider wants a piece of the National race series action - there will be one of the biggest races of the year in August at Grand Valley BMX, Grand Junction.  If not racing, make plans to attend the pro races - there will be a supercross race!!!  You'll be able to catch some of the best and fastest in the world as they pursue their dreams of bmx greatness and are on their way to the 2016 Olympics.

Speaking of the Olympics, we'll host another Olympic Day this June, which will be totally free and open to all.  Please promote this day in all your circles of influence as it's a great opportunity for people to discover the thrills and fun of bmx racing.

We'll also host a Race for Life, double pointer, to raise money for the Luekemia & Lymphoma Society.  Any rider who raises over $500 receives all of the entry fees to Grands paid for - start fund raising early if you want to go to Grands and get a major break in your expenses!  The Warnecke Scholarship Race will help us raise money for secondary education scholarships for bmx'ers and we'll host another State Championship Qualifying Race as late in August as USA BMX will alllow us to run.  August will be a packed month - plan accordingly.  The State Championship Final weekend will be on September 13th this year, due to the Mile High National at Grand Valley on our usual Championship weekend.  Grand Valley typically plans for an entire weekend of racing with races on Friday night, Saturday, and the Championship on Sunday.  You must race at least 4 SQR's to qualify for a state series plate.  In reality, plan on racing at least those 4 and get in 8 single point races before mid-July so that you also get bonus points.  They'll take your best 4 scores, so you might want to race more than those 4 if you are going for a #1 plate!!!

Please check your rider's new number and plan to purchase new numbers at the track prior to their first race.  Anyone who raced last season will have a new number!  We'll have numbers for $1 each at the track.  We can also purchase custom plates for you, if you wish - just shoot me an email at info@aspendirtbikeschool.com.

We'll carry Staats race bikes, cruisers, and balance bikes, as well as Ciari parts for 2015.  These are some of the best in the world and we're thrilled to be able to bring this brand to Colorado.  Please call us with any questions or needs you have for your racer.   John Viola and Tristan Trincado are both rocking sweet Staats bikes this season - be sure to check them out.  They are coming from a family in California with a loooonnngggg history in BMX racing with a background in design and a strong desire to bring the best products available to BMX racers of all sizes.

Can't wait to see you all soon,

Yvette
