USA BMX Getting Back on Track
USA BMX Guiding More Than 300 Sanctioned Tracks Nationwide to Safely Return to Racing with ‘Ready to Race’ Guidelines, Marketing, and Educational Resources
Safety Guidelines, Membership Renewals, Discounts and a Growing Number of Bikes Sold Helping Riders to Get Back on Track
Gilbert, Ariz. (May 7, 2020) — Due to COVID-19 restrictions, BMX local tracks were forced to close over the past two months, giving USA BMX members no place to practice or race. Starting today, USA BMX will provide those members with two free months of additional membership. Any member who has already renewed their membership this year will receive two additional months of membership. Any member who expired on March 1, 2020, or later, will also receive two (2) additional months added to their membership by renewing online today through December 31, 2020. In addition to these promotions, it is equally as important to work hand in hand with our 320 tracks to ensure members a safe return to the track. Tracks are tasked with sorting through the maze of local rules and regulations from multiple jurisdictions and authorities. To assist tracks, the USA BMX team has created tools to guide track operators step-by-step through this challenging process.
"As always, the safety of our athletes and their families, our staff, and the entire USA BMX community is our priority," said USA BMX CEO, B.A. Anderson. "Like you, our team is dreaming of getting back to the track, and we are focused on being a resource for our membership and tracks to ensure a safe return. We are communicating with our members and tracks more than ever and have been overwhelmed by the positive communication and constructive feedback that has been received. We have strategically taken this time to focus first on the safe return of BMX on the local level, and secondly, on completing the rest of the Gold Cup and National Series. Additionally, we are using this unique opportunity while there are no events to work on creative solutions and programming to grow the sport."
Building upon the extended memberships offered to riders and families affected by the COVID-19 shutdown, USA BMX / BMX Canada has developed several promotions to encourage new riders to join the sport of BMX. During this period of 'sheltering in place,' a surge in youth bike sales has occurred as families have been looking for creative ways to stay physically fit. To encourage these new riders, young and old, to join BMX, USA BMX has developed two discounted membership offers.
Each of the following membership offers are available for purchase until July 1, 2020:
Discounted Family Memberships - Families purchasing or already having at least one full-priced membership may add any number of brand new additional family members for only $30 USD ($35 CAD). These memberships must be purchased online, through our new mobile-friendly Membership Purchase Flow.
$30 Trial Memberships - Traditionally, a 30-day membership, we have now doubled the time to be a 60-day trial membership giving riders an additional 30 days to fall in love with BMX while also affording new riders more time to break up the cost of a full membership, if needed.
To assist new and renewing USA BMX / BMX Canada members with the membership process, USA BMX has launched a completely revamped, mobile-friendly membership purchase experience. Working with a local team of website user-interface designers and programmers, this new membership experience process will streamline users' ability to create their accounts or access their current login. The unique membership purchase experience features the ability to use a Facebook or Google account to set up or access membership accounts. In order to get tracks open and running practices and races safely, USA BMX first encourages local sanctioned clubs to work with their local government agencies and make decisions based on information from state and local health departments, athletic administrations and state governments as well as following guidelines supplied by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The ‘Ready to Race’ toolkit created by USA BMX is to be used in conjunction with state and city guidelines. The thorough toolkit will assist tracks in ensuring social distancing, managing their events, and provides detailed strategies to reduce the number of attendees (if required) through block racing, reduce staging lanes, limit operation to small group practices and other measures. Additional resources that have been offered to tracks include training course for marketing relaunch, at home track modeling program, block racing template, and four-rider class templates.
