FREE AGENT Bicycles
Free Agent was first started by Voris Dixon. Somewhere around ‘83 to ‘84 he sold it.
Brent Shoup was a top Orange YMCA local in So. California. He rode for VDC.
It was his family (The Shoups) who bought Free Agent. That’s the connection to VDC.
Though they started out as a garage company in Buena Park, CA., the Shoup’s sold alot of frames.
During the early 90’s, many of the Old School BMX companies took a hit and many went under, or changed owners.
Sometime in the mid 90’s the Free Agent brand name was sold to KHS - who have done a darn good job of maintaining the integrity of the brand, producing a full line of complete BMX bikes and accessories. -

SHIMANO
In 1961, a 3-speed bicycle hub displayed at the New York Toy Show was the catalyst for what would eventually become Shimano American Corporation. The popularity of 20-inch wheeled bikes with hi-rise handle bars fueled a demand for multi-speed hubs and Shimano was producing an affordable and reliable version that caught the attention of the industry. So much so, that by 1965, Yoshizo Shimano, the youngest son of the company founder in Japan, opened an office in New York to get quicker product feedback and to provide technical and warranty assistance to retailers selling bikes equipped with Shimano parts.
