How do I get started?

Are you or your child interested in trying BMX, but dont know where to start?

Come on out any Wedesday night between 5:30 pm and 7pm for practice, entry fee is $3.

Open to any age, any level of ability, but you must be a beginner.

We will set up your bike, talk you through the membership process, walk you through the race procedures, and get you on the Start Gate.

Any new rider who shows for the Thursday Night Beginner Clinic gets one on one mentorship on how to get started in BMX. Cross Creek BMX provides the USA BMX One Day Membership. You provide any bike capable of being on the track (BMX, Mountain, Dirt Jumper, etc), helmet, long sleeve shirt, long pants, and closed toe shoes. If your bike needs some mechanical help, we can provide basic level support to get you going (Parts not included).

If you decide to continue and convert the One Day Membership to a USA BMX Annual Membership, Cross Creek BMX pays for $10 of the $60 Annual fee. At that point, you may continue coming to the Thursday Night Beginner Clinic, or try our Monday Night Total Points Racing!

Riders who go through the Thursday Night Beginner Clinic and convert to a USA BMX Annual Membership will also be offered a Five Race Punch Card for $30. Each punch represents a Single Point Race at Cross Creek BMX, which would normally cost $50. So you are essentially getting two races free. Our hope is to get as many beginners graduated to racing as possible. We hope the Five Race Punch Card will help motivate you to racing.

What you will need to start:
Most racers start with their 20" bike by removing the chain guard, kick stand, reflectors
and pegs.  There is also a cruiser class for those riders with 24" bikes.  Novice riders may ride 24" bikes in novice or cruiser class.

A USA BMX membership is required to practice or race.  Full memberships and one time only 1-day memberships are available at the track.

Who will I race?
Races are organized into separate girls and boys classes then subdivided into age groups and skill levels. The age groups range from 5 and under to 51 and over classes.  Within these age groups are three skill levels: Novice, Intermediate and Expert. All riders start as novices and work up to the more advanced levels by winning races.  Female riders start as Novice then advance to Girls class.

How much does it cost?
Once you have become an USA BMX member the only cost will be the race day entry fee. The entry fee entitles you to be a participant in the day's actions. A typical BMX race includes 2 or 3 qualifying motos along with the main event. In the main event, you race for awards (stamps, trophy or ribbon), determined by your finish, along with the precious District points. Most races at Cross Creek BMX $12, balance bikes $5, practice $3.

New riders at Cross Creek BMX who purchase of full membership will receive their first race free.

Required Apparel and Equipment

  • All riders must wear helmets with a permanent strap attached, snaps are not

highly recommends a full-face helmet or a helmet that covers the ears. (Loaner
    Helmets are avalible at sign-ups)
  • All riders must wear enclosed shoes, which are sufficient to protect the rider's feet.
(No open toed/back shoes will be allowed)
  • All riders must wear long pants (waist to ankles) or knee length shorts, with shin
    and knee pads
  • It is recommended that riders must wear long sleeved shirts. Short sleeved shirts
and sufficient elbow padding is allowable
  • It is recommended that riders wear gloves as our turns are paved
  • Handlebar grips are required and must be sufficient to fully cover and enclose all
metal and openings on the handlebar ends
  • All kickstands, chain guards, fenders and reflector brackets must be removed
  • No bicycle with any freestyle type pegs will be allowed on the track at any time
  • All bikes must have some form of operating braking system
  • All equipment must be safe and in good condition in order to compete or practice

Tips for parents of new riders:
If you have a younger child, try to get them up on the gate for the 1st time with other
riders their age and size. The gate can be intimidating for the younger riders, but
being up there with riders their size seems to help ease them into it.

Please feel free to ask anyone out at the track if you have questions. You will find that
most everyone will be very helpful in making sure you and your child have a great time
at the track.
