Important Racing Rules
There are rules that are heavily enforced at larger races like the Provincial race series or National series races. Please ensure your rider understands the following important rules and follows them.
30 Foot rule (from the gate down the start hill)
A rider determined by an official to have intentionally or maliciously impeded the progress of another rider during the first 30 feet of the race will be disqualified and moved to last place. To facilitate this rule, it is recommended that a clearly visible line extend across the width of the track, placed 30 feet from the starting gate.
(Moving over is not a foul in and of itself. Intentionally and/or maliciously moving over and impeding another rider's progress is the foul.)
- basically, once the gate drops, if there is a rider to either side of you, you MUST stay within your lane until you pass the 30' line, unless you can move over without impeding the rider. If you are in lane 7 and the nearest rider is in lane 4, you are able to move over within the 30', as you are not impeding another rider.
Last straight rule (similar to 30 feet rule)
When on the final straight, a rider determined by an official to have intentionally and/or maliciously impeded the progress of another rider will be disqualified and moved to last place.
(Moving over is not a foul in and of itself. Intentionally/maliciously moving over and another impeding another rider is the foul.)
- New rider's to be safe, coming out of the last corner, maintain your line to the finish!
Young Rider Assistance Rule
NO RECORDING OR PICTURES ARE PERMITTED IN THE GATE OR NEAR THE START HILL AS THEY INTERFERE WITH THE GATE CADENCE AND CAN CAUSE RIDERS TO FLIP THE GATE
The only riders that may be assisted at the starting gate are those 5 years old and younger. This assistance shall only include the rear wheel being placed between the assistant’s legs. No hands may be used to prop the rider up and any touching the rider or bike with the assistants hands or pushing off will result in the rider’s disqualification.
Parents of any rider 6 to 8 years of age may accompany their rider through the staging area. However, these parents are NOT ALLOWED to assist their rider at or on the starting gate. Parents of riders nine years of age and older may accompany their rider through the chutes but must exit the staging area upon exiting the chutes. These same parents may not be at or on the starting gate.
